SNIPSA is an organization formed by a group of veterinarians and caring individuals dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted animals in San Antonio and the surrounding area.

Let’s be honest: your dog has probably been training for this race their entire life. You? Maybe not.Â
Race for the Rescues is SNIPSA’s biggest fundraiser of the year—and it’s one of the most fun ways to help homeless dogs and cats in our community.
Join us for a pet-friendly 5K starting at the Alamo Heights swimming pool. Run it, walk it, jog it, sniff every tree along the way…whatever works! Bring your dog(s), your family, your friends, or your entire four-legged fan club.
Every step and every dollar helps SNIPSA provide spay/neuter outreach and lifesaving veterinary care for rescue animals in our community.
So leash up, lace up, and come race for the rescues!

Bonita is a remarkable dog with a remarkable story to tell. Bonita and her friend, Dylan, were found in downtown San Antonio in December of 2025, vulnerable but remarkably friendly. Just a month after taking them in, Bonita and Dylan’s caretaker passed away unexpectedly, and a family friend stepped in to continue feeding and playing with the dogs. They frequently traveled across the city to visit Bonita and Dylan, who were then living together in a backyard, before taking them to SNIPSA for their respective surgeries and vaccinations.
Their temporary caretakers had animals of their own already, and every boarding facility and shelter they checked was already at capacity. Desperately wanting these affectionate pups to get the second chance they deserved in a place they knew would be safe, they turned to SNIPSA.
Now an official member of our adoption program, Bonita—lovingly called Bonnie—has returned to SNIPSA, this time to join our rescue program to find her forever home! In foster care, Bonita is described as a happy-go-lucky girl, playful, and an absolute office favorite. In fact, her caretakers noted that she shares the biggest tail wags whenever she greets new people.
To add to her long list of green flags, Bonita sports the following traits:
Happy-go-lucky and playful personality.
Friendly with other dogs.
Master at posing for portraits.
Great on walks.
Well-behaved in her crate.
Generates the biggest tail wags for new friends.
This unexpected tale of a sweet pup won over our hearts in the blink of an eye––and her personality keeps us falling deeper. After going through so much instability, we’re confident that this fido is ready to settle down in her forever home. So, what are you waiting for? Your perfect dog is with Bonita; all that’s left to do is complete her adoption application!
