Tinkerbelle came to SNIPSA with a broken leg. Dr Ben Espy did surgery to fix her leg. She is now adopted and very happy. |
Every dog and cat that enters our program will cost a significant amount of money depending on his or her medical needs and length of stay. Some rescue animals are in foster care for months until they can be appropriately re-homed. Heartworm infection, mange, orthopedic injuries, and simple neglect are just a few of the medical challenges SNIPSA encounters. Heartworm disease alone accounts for over thirty percent of our special medical needs. A dog with mange may need to be quarantined or require months of dips and oral medications to treat resistant cases. Still there are those that have sustained significant injury after being hit by a car and require referral to a surgical specialist. One can imagine the financial and physical resources it requires to nurse these animals back to health. SNIPSA is committed to providing optimal care for our animals and will do what it takes to see them through their rehabilitation.
SNIPSA is also faced with managing behavioral issues. Many of the rescues are poorly socialized and are left to fend for themselves on the streets. They have spent their entire life trying to survive. Dodging cars, searching for scraps of food, running from angry people are how they exist. When finally placed in a home, they need time to acclimate. Many have never seen the inside of a house or received affection. To try on new behavior and learn what is expected takes time and patience. Even with the best of intentions, some may never get adopted and our foster homes become mini-sanctuaries for their care.
There are also those day-to-day operating expenses such as rent, utilities, advertising, administrative help, and insurance which also increase our costs. We depend entirely on private donations and grants to keep our organization thriving. SNIPSA is blessed to have a core group of tireless volunteers that donate thousands of valuable hours that help offset our expenses.

YOU CAN HELP!
Even if you are unable to adopt a dog or cat from our program, you still have the opportunity to financially support one of our current rescues.
With your donation in a specific animal’s name, you can be the financial sponsor of that special rescue until it is adopted. Your name will appear as the sponsor under the animal’s picture (you can request anonymity). Contributions can also be made in the form of a dedication ("in memory of" or "in honor of" and will be included on the webpage if desired). We will send you a photo of your sponsored dog and a certificate of enrollment in our sponsor program.
All donations are tax-deductible!
