Hi there my name is Faith. I used to have another name but no one knows what it was. You see I was picked up by an Animal Control Officer and taken to the San Antonio Animal Care Services place. When I got there they put me into a big kennel where a lot of dogs were barking and it was scary. I was not used to this. I was hungry (it had been a while since I had eaten and you could see all of my ribs and spine), I was cold and shaking. As soon as I got there a nice lady from SNIPSA was walking around looking at a lot of dogs and she told me she would be back for me. She wrote something on the outside of my card, talked to me and told me not to worry everything would be ok. I didn't know why she had to leave me there but I guess it was in case my owners came looking for me.
When she came back to get me I was pretty excited although I still wasn't feeling that great. When she got me back to her place she started quickly picking all of the nasty tics from my body that had been living there and gave me some medicine for those and the fleas. Then we hopped right in the shower. It was during that shower that I got my name "Faith" When my rescuer was scrubbing by belly she first felt one small lump. Then another very large one. We were lucky to be in the same place as a very good veterinarian so I went right onto surgery after my bath. The doctor removed four large mammary tumors from by chest and belly area. They gave me some medicine for the pain and I had to wear this ridiculous hat for two weeks so I didn't try to pull out my staples while they healed. They send part of my tumor to the lab and said we just had to wait.
While we were waiting I got settled in nicely at my foster home. I have a great yard that I like to walk around, sniff and patrol. I am convinced there is something living under our shed so I keep a close eye on it most of the time. I have lots of beds around the house that I take naps on during the day and my own special bed to sleep in at night. I have gained some weight and am eating a healthy diet so my fur is getting nice and soft again, just like I remember from when I was a young pup! We have two kids at home too and they love to cuddle with me, so does my foster sister who is a cute little lab! We are best buddies and hang out pretty much all the time.
Now that you know all of this about me I guess its time to tell you what the lab found. You see its hard to say because no one knows. My tumors did show that they were malignant. A chest x-ray found that there was no cancer present after they removed everything. The veterinarians at SNIPSA sent all of my tests and results to a specialist and she said what I have is very hard to predict. I could have a long life left or it could come back and I could get sick again soon. We just don't know. Right now I am happy and living life to the fullest. I know my foster family loves me and they want what is best for me. I do want my new family to come along and love me unconditionally for the rest of my life...I will fight for that family no matter what life throws at me! Do you think you are the right family for me?
