Foxy Lady

Foxy Lady is approximately 2 years old and weighs a mere 20 lbs full grown. We have no idea what her breed mix might be, but a good guess would be Border Collie/Shepherd/Sheltie. Foxy has medium/long SILKEN hair. She is the mother of 9 puppies. The entire family was rescued from the street. Her puppies were gathered up while they were still young enough to be well-socialized. They were raised in loving fostercare with SNIPSA until old enough to be adopted. All of her puppies have now been adopted.
She just needs time and a patient hand.
Foxy was not captured until two weeks after her puppies. A humane trap had to be set in order to capture her. Foxy was captured in a business area near Loop 410/Vance Jackson. People in the area said Foxy had been living around there for two years and they knew of her having two litters of puppies. She was very fearful of humans. On July 11th (2009), Foxy was captured by two SNIPSA volunteers who immediately took Foxy into fostercare and began slowly working with her. Foxy was paralyzed with fear. She would hide in every corner of the yard or house. She would not eat and had to be carried outside to potty. She would go to every extreme to keep from being touched; however, no matter how fearful Foxy was, she was NEVER AGGRESSIVE. Even when cornered, she was in NO way aggressive.
Since Foxy entered fostercare, she has improved alot, although she still has a long ways to go. Foxy has now integrated into her foster home with the other dogs and people. She has a kennel she loves and sleeps in it most of the day. She enjoys long walks on a loose leash. She is housebroken and uses the pet door to come and go. She eats well inside her kennel. Occasionally Foxy will come to her name when she is in the backyard. She stays clear of adult dogs, but loves and plays with puppies. She tolerates children and ignores cats. She has started to play with toys and takes them into her kennel. She no longer shrinks away from being touched (although it's still not her favorite thing). She has even started taking food from her foster persons hands. She is not a "barker". Foxy is a very nice house guest, especially if you are a person who does not want a "needy/clingy" dog.
Foxy still has a long way to go, but with patience, she is becoming a GREAT little dog. She will improve even more once she is in her own forever home, with her own forever family. Because of her low activity level, great leash-walker, and non- barking, Foxy would make a great apartment/condo dog or in a home with a senior person or couple.
UPDATE
Foxy Lady has finally reached a point where she could easily be adopted into a home with older children, dogs, cats and especially someone that loves to walk and run. During Thanksgiving dinner, with all the guests around, Foxy went to her bed and never bothered anyone. There was no growling, barking or trying to run away. She will greet us in the morning with a big smile and dance, but then goes directly back to her bed. She loves her kennel. She eats there and will voluntarily go to sleep there. She is totally house broken with the use of a dog door. She is still very shy with strangers, ducking when being petted. However, There is no aggression. When a leash comes out, so does Foxy. She dances down the street on her leash with no tugging or trying to get away. Recently she has started coming when being called while roaming the back yard. It will still take a little time for her to become comfortable in a new environment, but she will.
Foxy has been spayed, she is current on vaccinations and she is microchipped. If you have room to share in your heart and home with this sweet dog who deserves so much better, please send an email to Cheryl at boboat62@yahoo.com.
