The Story of Poor BoyMeet "Poor Boy"- SNIPSA's latest orthopedic project. We are getting to be old hats at finding dogs that require amputation. Poor Boy just happened to be at the right place for his future. A SNIPSA volunteer picking up another dog from ACS was alerted to this injured pup. Amazing how stoic animals can be- having lost the bottom third of his rear leg and still wagging his tail. The phone calls were made and plans orchestrated. A trip to South Texas Veterinary Specialists for yet another surgery. But how could we leave this 11lb pup behind? Watch this video to learn more about Poor Boy and consider making a donation towards his care. Without supporters like you, we couldn't continue our good works in the community. Cheers to Poor Boy and second chances!!!

The Story of St. NickSt. Nick “found” SNIPSA after being hit by a car. He just happened to be arriving to Animal Care Services at the same time a volunteer was picking up another injured dog. His story is quite remarkable and gives credence to why dogs are such incredible creatures. They hold no grudges, keep looking ahead, and appreciate what they have. Take a minute to watch the video. Donations are being sought to help with St. Nick’s medical care. Through your support, we are able to help other dogs just like St. Nick. |

Through Your EyesMeet Ray Charles aka "RC." His story is quite remarkable. How far this little guy has come embodies the power of healing and why animals keep us grounded in life. We first met RC at a Big Fix we hosted in early March. While RC was being neutered, his heart stopped. A veterinarian was quick on his toes and immediately began CPR. After minutes of heroic effort, he was able to get RC's heart going again and his breathing restored. It was one of those "I can't believe this is happening moments." The first few days were a struggle as little RC could not stand, lift his head, or even notice you were in the room. The few minutes of oxygen deprivation when his heart stopped had affected his central nervous system and we weren't real sure how well RC would recover. Over the course of the next few days, RC managed to improve very slowly. By day two he responded to your voice and could lift his head. By day three, he could stand with assistance. We knew there was hope as RC wagged his tail and showed interest in food. He remained blind but gradually grew more steady on his feet and could walk around uninhibited. He learned where the food and water bowls were. He managed the stairs and sidewalk. About a week into his recovery, he somehow found his way out of a crate and ate a few window treatments. We knew then he woud not look back. He was your typical mischievous puppy. He loves the other dogs, kids of the household, and fetches like a madman. There are many days we question whether RC is blind at all as he continues to amaze us with his adaptation. RC is truly a walking miracle. |

TessaA large part of the rescues taken in by SNIPSA are dogs and cats that are severely neglected, ill, or injured. Tessa is one such dog. She came to SNIPSA in August of 2007. Severely matted and malnourished, She had to be taught how to eat, being without food for so long, she had forgotten how. Tess never gave up. This is her story in video: Tessa |

OpieSNIPSA encountered many miracles this year! Many of you remember Mira, the German Shepherd with mange and bleeding sores all over; Bismark, the German Shepherd and Sarge, the Yellow Lab, both with orthopedic injuries resulting in surgery; Faith, the Yellow Lab with the leg that had to be amputated; just to name a few. All survived and are doing well now in their forever homes. But, one of the biggest miracles we encountered at SNIPSA was Opie's story. Opie is a Poodle that was hit by a car and could not walk. He was almost euthanized at Animal Care Services and has now completely healed and loves his new life! His foster mom made a video of his progress for his new family. To be truly inspired by what love and dedication can do, click on Opie's Story. |
