Rex

Adoption Pending 9.02.10

Rex is a male, one-year old terrier mix weighing 23 lbs. Rex is a great dog but guessing his exact genealogy is a mystery to everyone that meets him. We have had some fun games trying to figure this out but the one thing for sure is that Rex is a great little dog. He weighs in at only 23 pounds and is full grown. Rex's story is one all to familiar to many of San Antonio's pets. Last summer a neighbor of a SNIPSA employee found this cute little puppy running around near their office. They had just lost their elderly dogs and decided to keep sweet little Rex. They had never had a puppy before and Rex was a typical puppy running in the house, having accidents, and walking out of open gates in the yard (go figure!) He had made his way to the SNIPSA employees house a couple of times and she approached the family and offered suggestions and guidance on crate training, house training, and other puppy training tips. As the year went on Rex made little visits outside his yard, mostly with the family and kids when they were playing (thankfully they live on a quiet little cul-de-sac).

Fast forward to Memorial Day weekend 2010. Rex is outside playing with the other dogs in the neighborhood and the kids while the family is seemingly packing up the car for a vacation. Two days later the SNIPSA employee notices the family has not been home and he has been living outside. She starts to feed him and get him to come in but he is very untrustworthy and shy toward people, not like that fun loving puppy from last summer. Slowly but surely over the next few days we offered Rex treats and tried to shower him with affection. Within a week or so he was eating out of our hands, being pet, and even coming into the garage to eat. He was still insistent on sleeping in his family's driveway each night in hopes they would return. When they finally did neighbors talked to them and they said he was not theirs! At this point he would enter the house of the people who had been caring for him, play with their dogs, and even try to stay for a little television. He still wanted to go back every night to check for his family though. SNIPSA brought sweet Rex in officially and he is ready for his forever home. He has been living in foster care and even if he goes back to his old home he will come running when his foster mom calls him!

He is mostly housetrained, cratetrained and loves other dogs. He is great with kids and he loves to sit in your lap and cuddle. No one would know that this poor boy had been abandoned twice. He is very trusting and loyal! Rex loves to play with his chewy toys, will fetch them, and is pretty happy go lucky. Won't you make things complete for this wonderful pup and welcome him into your home, forever! Rex has been neutered, he is current on vaccinations and he is microchipped.
