SNIPITS - Success Stories from Adopters

Blake

"It has been almost a year since Sheri , the kids and I adopted Blake - I kept his name as it seemed to fit. We moved out to Stone Oak where Blake gets morning and evening long walks. He would like to chase the deer but I would never find him if I did! I am thankful every day that he is my buddy - he is the most wonderful dog anyone could ever imagine. He has the best temperament and is good with both kids and dogs..... doesn't bark, bite, chew, and is loved by everyone!

When the girls visit, he sleeps with all of us and loves for them to pay him additional attention. When they leave, he is exhausted and sleeps for hours....and so do I! Please pass on to all the Snipsa Volunteers that their work is such a gift....to the many pets that would otherwise not be saved. My day would not be the same if I could not wake up with a sweet Blake ready to go walk, and come home from work to a waggy tail. How lucky I am!"

Zsa Zsa

"We have had Zsa Zsa (now Sandy) for about one month now, and she is doing so well! She is full of happiness and good cheer, which she expresses by wiggling her whole body and giving lots of kisses. She is super well behaved and loves her morning walks. On cool days she likes to find the warm spot on the rug in the sunshine, and recently she figured out how to use the stairs. She politely paws the back door if she needs to go outside, and then again when she’s ready to come back in.

She likes to hang out with us when we are gardening outside, but doesn’t bother the plants or dig in the garden, and she likes to be in the kitchen when we are cooking. Truly a sweet girl whom we are so glad to have in our household! And, our other dog (Sweeper, rescued 5+ years ago) has accepted this new doggie and seems very happy to have another canine in the house again. Sandy/Zsa Zsa has taught us all a good lesson to never leave dirty socks on the floor! If she finds a stray sock around, in a flash she will have a hole chewed in it! She’s never once chewed a shoe or anything else – just socks! This is actually fine by me, as now everyone in the house seems magically cured of leaving socks around! Now Instead, she likes to chew on rope toys and nylabones, and it is so cute how she amuses herself by throwing a toy in the air and then runs to chase it! Thank you for rescuing this sweet girl - we love her!

Gemma

"Emma is adjusting just great! She walks around like she owns the house, she and our other dog are BFF's. We have 2 children that both love her to death, our 10 year old thinks she is his dog and tries to steal all her attention. Our dog took a few days to get used to sharing at first but now they are inseparable. Our cats are a different story; they stay away from Gemma! Now that she got her Rabies vaccination, she will be starting puppy classes very soon. Even though we live in Houston, we still recommend SNIPSA to everyone that asks about our beautiful girl. We love her!"

Honey Bear

"Thank you, SNIPSA, for all you do for God's creatures who don't have a voice. We just love our Sophie (AKA: "Honeybear"). She has been with us since the end of January and we can't imagine our life without her! She has quickly become a part of the family, is wonderful with everyone that visits us, and have a 7-yr old Yorkie that is very attached to Sophie. Thank you for bringing us this Angel."

Ziggy

"Ziggy is doing great! He’s grown so much. When we took him to the vet on the 15th, he was almost 30 pounds! She said he’s gaining about 10 pounds a month. He is a very affectionate dog and loves the entire family. He’s pretty good with people but is a little shy until he gets to know them. He barks first and then comes hide between my legs. Some watchdog!! He’s still very cautious with other dogs. The Lab next door he seems to be okay with but that’s because Boomer’s fenced in. We were wondering if we should get another dog for him as a playmate or if he just does better being an only child. He is housebroken but only likes to go outside if we’re with him. We’ve only ever had one dog at a time but are open to the idea of rescuing another one if it would be a good fit for Ziggy. He is spoiled rotten and is the center of attention. He can sit, high-five, and play catch or keep-away, depending on what playful mood he’s in that day. In fact, he’s in my office in one of his beds right now taking his morning nap. He’s never far away from one of us. We love him dearly!"

Lotus (previously Lexi)

"Lotus has definitely made herself right at home with us! We also adopted Luke Skywalker (was previously named Quint) from SNIPSA on June 1 and he absolutely loves having another dog around the house! It’s clear that he is much happier with a playmate. We did so much training with Luke that we’ve been following the protocol we learned in obedience training at home with Lotus. She is learning very well and picks up on cues from Luke. We’ve had great experiences in both of our experiences adopting from you guys. I’ve recommended you to a few other people that have been looking at getting a dog sometime soon, including my mother who lives in Kerrville. We’re thankful that we got to expand our family by adopting our two pups from you guys!"

Betty White

"Our family truly became complete in February of 2012 when we met Miss Betty White at the Quarry. We weren't looking for a dog, so I always say Betty was looking for a family and she picked us. She rescued us from boring nights and filled a hole that no other dog could. You know she's happy when you look at her smile! That tongue shows affection daily, we get wet, mile long kisses, usually on the lips. She sits for her favorite treats from Woof Gang Bakery and she even will lay down for a yam bone. Betty White especially loves her daddy, and to be honest has him wrapped around her wagging tail. Betty loves to go on rides in daddy's jeep and loves it when he walks in he door from work. Betty's favorite playmates are her big brothers, Jacob and Jonah. She loves holidays and summer when they don't have school and can play all day long. Jacob is her sleeping buddy, and they are lost without each other. Jacob even wrote a poem about her. Betty and Jonah are two peas in a pod, playful and clumsy. We are so in love with this girl, and don't know what we would do without her. SNIPSA has a special place in our hearts because without them we wouldn't have our Betty White!"

Zipper now Bandit

"We adopted Zipper (now Bandit) from SNIPSA and he is adjusting to our family fabulously! We love Bandit! He is kennel and potty trained and working on his love of nipping at ankles and fingers. Pretty typical, our cat has a love/hate relationship with Bandit; they are very entertaining for each other. We have 2 two boys aged 9 and 12. The realities of taking care of a puppy set in but they absolutely love him and give him lots of love and attention! We are working on training him as a family and everything is going smoothly. We love our Bandit!"

Missy Elliot

"Dixie (formerly known as Missy Elliot) and our dog Eva became friends right away! We wanted another dog to be Eva's companion, and couldn't be more happy with Dixie. They play all day long in our backyard and cuddle together at night. We're working on loose-leash walking, and making friends with other dogs. Our family is very happy with Dixie and glad SNIPSA rescued her!"

Willow

Willow came to SNIPSA after being surrendered at ACS simply because her owners boyfriend wasn't fond of Chihuahuas. Well everything happens for a reason and we are SO glad for this one! Willow has finally found a family to call her own after being tossed aside and is beginning to understand what unconditional love truly means. Her new family sent us their Holiday Family Portrait with Willow front and center!

"Here is our Christmas card photo including Willow in her Santa dress. She seems to love wearing clothes, including her sweater that she wears on cold morning walks. Our daughter had a Santa skirt she wore on Christmas so the two of them would match-too cute! We love our new family member!"

Riley

Riley came to SNIPSA a few months back when a kind-hearted family saw him at the San Antonio Mission Espada while taking pictures. He had a pretty bad case of demodectic mange and looked like he hadn't eaten in days. Luckily this family took Riley under their wing for a few days and brought him to see us.

We are happy to report that Riley has made a full recovery from the effects of street life, and is now loving his new luxurious life with his very own family! When a walk or the dog park is mentioned, he cocks his head to the side; he is very smart! Riley also loves to bury his bones in the backyard and then snuggle up next to the boys on their bed. He thoroughly enjoyed his first Christmas under the tree watching everyone open presents, and said that he got the best present EVER... a family!

Bleu

"We adopted Bleu, a beautiful male Pitbull in September. We could not be happier, he has been an amazing part of our lives! He is so happy, fun, loving, and joyful dog. He shows no signs of aggression and socializes well with other dogs. We don't have children yet but he is very good with kids at the park. We take him running everyday and he has a full box of toys. We are considering adopting him a friend, or becoming a foster home for another dog. Thank you for allowing us to adopt Bleu. He is everything we could have ever wanted in a companion!"

Murphy

"We adopted Murphy from SNIPSA in February 2012. He is doing great! Definitely one smart and beautiful little Bichon mix! He was 9 lbs when we got him and is now healthy and active at 15 pounds. God bless you all for the joy you bring into the lives of many families!"

Margarita

Maggie (formerly Margarita)

"Maggie is adjusting very well! We were all devastated when our dog Reggie died, including our Chihuahua, so we decided to look for a dog very similar in type and personality. When we saw (Margarita) Maggie's picture and her story on your web site we fell in love with her. When we finally met Maggie she bonded with us immediately! She is a friendly dog so she loves it when our friends come over, and loves to go on our daily walks. We often take her with us to run errands because car rides are her favorite thing! Since the kids are home-schooled, we spend a good bit of time at home with our dogs. Our Chihuahua gets along great with Maggie; they often cuddle up together on the couch. Our friends are so impressed by her loving personality that a few of them are looking at SNIPSA to see if they can find a dog too. We are very happy with Maggie!"

Collin

Collin

"I just wanted to take a moment to send you a picture of Collin and his "girlfriend" Chelsea. It's been almost a year since I brought him home and he has found his place in our home and our hearts. He is a big, sweet, dopey love-bug and I am so thankful every day that he came into my life. Happy Halloween :-) Maria"

Flower

What a Difference a Month Makes!

When we first received the pictures on July 25th we knew we had to act quickly. There was a beautiful, young Labrador Retriever who's foot was injured and mangled. Some of the initial reports we received indicated it maybe a somewhat new injury and may heal, however upon arriving at San Antonio Animal Care Services we knew almost immediately that she would lose her leg. The injury was open and old, she had experienced muscle atrophy all the way through her shoulder and was stumbling over the limb. None of this slowed this loving lab down as she quickly earned her name as she stopped to smell the flowers all the way to the car. Two days after joining SNIPSA Flower had her leg amputated and was as happy as we had seen her! She was no longer stumbling over the useless limb and was free to frolic and play with the rest of the dogs in her foster home.

Flower made her debut at an adoption event in mid-August and quickly won the hearts of many in attendance. Within a couple of hours she had peaked the interest of many families. Happy as could be the West family had been looking at adding a couple of dogs to their household and they fell in love with Flower and our little Phelps. Now we just had to see what kind of team these two would make...entertaining, energetic, and happy that was it! Flower and Phelps fit right in at their new home instantly and are best buddies. What a journey for Flower in that short month! We are not only thankful for the West family for adopting both dogs but also to the many donors that stepped forward based on our pleas on Facebook to help with her surgery costs. Thank you all again, we love the happy, tail-wagging endings!

SNIPITS From Adopters

Buttercup

SNIPSA-

She is really a doll. We love Buttercup. She allows my kids to pack her around in the baby stroller & a variety of other different imaginative games. She has been PrincessButtercup on a throne and is the right blend of playful and docile for our family! Thank you, SNIPSA. Everyone that meets her loves her & we make certain to let them know we adopted her from you.

Kasey

Diesel

Hi Cheryl,

I just wanted to update you on Diesel the chihuahua pup we adopted. We did end up changing his name to Eddie. He's got so much energy and is so playful it just really seemed to fit! I've attached some pictures of him with his big sis Mia. They ended up getting along so well! Eddie won't do anything without Mia. They both came with us on a road trip to Illinois to visit our families for Christmas and did a wonderful job. He really has just been a joy! He stops traffic anywhere we go. All of the people at the dog park are in love with him. I apologize for taking so long to send these pictures. It really is amazing how quickly the time flies, I can't believe we've had him for 7 months. Thank you so much for pairing us with our wonderful baby!

Sincerely, Stephanie Morgan

Jojo playing in the surf

Jojo

This shot was taken on St Jose Island with Jo and his new friend Patches, an Austin visitor. They were discovering a "Senorita" land crab.

Jo Jo has adapted well to living in luxury on a tropical island. He swims in the Gulf, runs on the beaches and visits all the local neighborhood dogs and cats.

He has become an inseparable part of our lives. Our 89 year old Mom, who has never cared for having dogs close enough to touch, has fallen in love with the little guy. He still has a lot of puppy habits like chewing hands and shoelaces, which makes getting dressed a bit difficult, but I trust he will grow our of that.

We think he is about half cow dog as he loves to herd things and has that "show me" attitude so common in those breeds. His basic training is coming along but he will never be a lab! We are grateful to the people who saw a real prize in that hairless, mange-ridden skinny starving pup.

Regards Adios

Rachel and Dad

Rachael and her Dad

This little Terrier/Schnauzer mix is quite happy in her new home with her new Dad! She was found by SNIPSA as an abandoned puppy with two of her littermates. She was very social and friendly right from the start! She loves getting attention and romping with fellow dogs. Rachael is well-loved and cared for in her new forever home.

Lola Meadows

Lola Meadows

Jonathan and Juliana Meadows adopted Lola and she has adjusted to her new forever home excellently. Her parents love her to death, and she follows Jonathan everywhere. She gets along with their other dog well, and likes having a buddy to play with during the day while they are at work. She’s a pretty grumpy morning person so she likes to have time to wake up before being taken outside. Lola is great at cleaning up spilled flour on the kitchen floor, and is scared of the groomer but likes feeling clean afterwards, happily rolling around in the grass when she gets home. Her favorite stories from her mom: “One time I went outside and found the fence gate wide open so I went and grabbed my shoes and started rushing out the door only to find her chilling on the front porch enjoying the evening air. And another time we were sitting at our dining room table eating when we noticed an odd smell in the air, we looked around and saw her sitting on the other side of the porch door with her back pushed up against the glass. When we got her attention, she looked REALLY guilty. :)”

Lilly and Gomer
Lilly rafting in pool

Lily and Gomer

"We adopted Gomer in June of 2007 and Lily in June of 2011. He and Lily have become best friends since we brought her home, they are always wrestling, running and playing. They are both lovable, snuggling dogs who want to be lapdogs but they are very heavy especially when they both try to get in your lap at the same time...LOL Having Lily join are family has really helped us all deal with the pain of losing Lacy.

SNIPSA is wonderful...I recommend you to anyone who is thinking of adopting a dog. I love that website offers so much information on the dogs, such as whether they like other dogs, cats, children, if they are housebroken, how old they are, etc. It gives a sense of confidence that you are adopting a dog that will fit well in your home and lifestyle. Everyone I have dealt with from SNIPSA have been so friendly and wonderful and have made the adoption processes so easy."

Amos-Formerly Lucas

Amos (Formerly Lucas)

"Our experience was fantastic. We drove from Florida to pick Amos up because we knew what we wanted and he was it. Arranging the meeting and transfer was seamless and upon arrival Amos fit right in. He is a gentle boy full of so much love it is hard to believe sometimes. I know that dog lovers all think their dog is the best, but seriously I don't know how much better a dog could get. He is just a special guy, has so much love for his people and makes it so easy for us to love him back. We feel like we won the lottery with Amos."

Dora the Explorer

Dora the Explorer (formerly Glinda)

"Here [is a] new picture of our Dora the Explorer! She was adopted in July 2008 and we absolutely love her!!! Thank you SNIPSA!!" - John and Kristi McHenry

Grizzy - Formerly Buddy

Grizzy (Formerly Buddy)

"I hope you are doing well! I wanted to send you a couple pictures of my SNIPSA boy Grizzy (formerly Buddy) from a weekend we spent in Boston in March. He looks so handsome on the Boston Common! :)." - Virginia

Choo - Formerly Zazu"

Choo (Formerly Zazu)

"Choo absolutely loves water and he runs for the hose whenever we are hand watering the back yard. He goes crazy over his nightly walks even though they have to be short right now. At the end of his walks, he gets very excited when he gets back to our house. We always say, "Where's Choo's house?" and he picks up speed all the way to the front door. He plays "hide and go seek" with our 20 year old son. Choo is the "finder". We have a large back yard with lots of trees and Choo has given himself a new "job" of chasing squirrels. He is very proud of himself when he chases them up a tree. Choo loves his new doggie bed in the sun room, especially because the room has 7 floor to ceiling windows where he can look out to the backyard and check for squirrels. He is a very active and social dog, he loves to be around our family and any activities we are involved in. He is under the table every time we are having a meal and he hangs out where ever we are. He is very smart and obedient and has learned lots of words/commands. He has a fun personality and is a great addition to our family!" - Patty Nicholson - John and Kristi McHenry

Annie"Annie"

Annie

"Annie is doing great. The girls have both walked her, and she is really doing well on the leash. She and the cats are still not best buddies, but they are living together without fights. And, as you can see from the pictures, we love her! Thanks for everything!" - Lee

Zoe - Formerly Molly

Zoe (a.k.a. Molly)

"Kevin and I wanted to provide you an update on "Molly" (who we have named Zoe). As you may recall, we are the couple from Austin that drove to San Antonio in July to meet Zoe, who was being taken care of by Ginger.

We are happy to say that Zoe is such a wonderful addition to our home -- we absolutely love her! She is a very sweet dog. Zoe still has some skin issues, but nothing severe -- she is scratching a bunch, that's all. We're working with a vet to find the best treatment for her. Her fur has grown in nicely and her urinary tract has not been a problem.

She is just a delight so many thanks to you both for everything you have done for her (and us!) I've attached two pictures: one of Zoe and Kevin and another picture of Zoe at her training graduation!

Sincerely,

Dominique and Kevin Thuot."
